Un estudio de la Universidad de Monash en Australia, encontró que el consumo elevado de alimentos ultraprocesados acelera el envejecimiento biológico. Por cada aumento del 10 % en la ingesta de alimentos ultraprocesados, la edad biológica aumenta unos 2,4 meses. Los alimentos ultraprocesados, como los snacks procesados ​​y las comidas preparadas, contribuyen a este efecto, aumentando los riesgos de enfermedades crónicas y mortalidad. De acuerdo con el autor, reducir el consumo de alimentos ultraprocesados ​​puede retrasar el envejecimiento biológico y promover un envejecimiento más saludable en general.
