Resumen: El exceso de tiempo sentado es un factor de riesgo de exceso de peso, que está aumentando en todo el mundo, especialmente en América Latina. Un estudio que utilizó datos de ocho países latinoamericanos encontró que el tiempo sentado por encima de las 8 horas diarias, se asoció con mayores probabilidades de exceso de peso, aunque no hubo diferencias en la circunferencia de la cintura entre las categorías de tiempo sentado. La circunferencia del cuello fue significativamente mayor en aquellos que permanecieron sentados durante períodos más largos.
